This one actually happened: I was on a ferryboat out to an island when a thick fog rolled in. Everything more than a yard from the boat was enveloped in a greyish-white haze.

I turned to my husband and said, “It’s like the world hasn’t rezzed yet.”

And he knew what I meant.
